Construction Of Shore Surgery Hospital Expansion Begins

Posted on January 18, 2019

The $14 million re-development of Acurity Health Group’s Shore Surgery Hospital in Hastings will begin this week with the appointment of local contractor Alexander Construction to lead the project.

Building consent has been granted for the expansion.

The development will include space for additional state-of-the-art operating theatres, expanded post-anesthesia care unit and day surgery unit, a modern redesigned reception area, and additional onsite car parking.

CEO of Acurity Health Group Dr Jonathan Coleman said it was great to have a local company involved in the build.

“Alexander Construction is a reputable company that has played an extensive role in developments across Hawke’s Bay over many years and we welcome their expertise as we move forward with this project.”

Mark Hamilton, Managing Director of Alexander Construction, said the company is excited to be awarded the contract and is proud of its history with Shore Surgery.

“This is our 15th health project in the last 10 years and we were naturally delighted to be chosen to partner with Shore Surgery on the next phase of their development,” he said.

Denise Primrose, General Manager of Shore Surgery Hospital, said the expansion and upgrade will provide sufficient space and resources to meet the current and future needs of the community in a facility of the highest quality and standard.

“Our focus as always is to provide an exceptional experience for our patients and their families. From the moment patients arrive at Shore Surgery they will benefit from a more streamlined experience made possible by the redesigned reception and ease of car-parking. Patient comfort will be enhanced further through our upgraded facilities that will also provide a superior environment for our staff and specialists,” she said.

Meanwhile, Radiation Oncology services will be operational in the New Year at Acurity’s Bowen Hospital in Wellington, central New Zealand’s first private cancer care facility, which was opened recently.

Acurity’s Wakefield Hospital in Wellington is also poised to commence a $100 million plus state-of-the-art hospital rebuild and will offer patients from central New Zealand access to some of the most advanced medical services and treatment in the country.

“Investing in our hospitals and facilities ensures we retain our position as a leading private provider of surgical healthcare services delivering exceptional care to New Zealanders,” says Dr Coleman.
